A See-Through Fire Wall, Five Feet Tall

The Urbana U33 Tall See-Through is the most dramatic fireplace in this catalogue: a 35" wide by 60" tall glass opening, visible from both sides, with 59,000 BTUs behind it and Urbana's 3D stainless steel burner producing a fire with real depth rather than a flat row of flames. Clean-face construction means no louvers on either side. This build includes the horizontal fluted liner and remote. It requires a horizontal power vent kit, which has to be planned into the build — this is a fireplace you design a house around, not one you retrofit. Supplied and installed by Wheatland Fireplace across Saskatchewan.

1. Where does a see-through fireplace make sense?
Between a living room and a dining room, a bedroom and an ensuite, or an indoor room and a covered patio wall. It has to be planned into the floor plan — both sides need finish, clearance and access.
2. Why is a power vent required?
The firebox is large and the vent run on a see-through installation is rarely simple. Urbana specifies a horizontal power vent kit for this model; it is not optional, and we include it in the quote.
3. How much heat is 59,000 BTUs?
A lot — enough to overheat a small room. On a see-through installation the output is split between two spaces, which is part of why the configuration works.
4. Can this be retrofitted into an existing house?
Rarely without significant construction. It is 300 lbs, five feet of glass on both sides, and needs a power vent. New builds and full renovations are its natural home.
5. How early should I involve Wheatland Fireplace?
At the drawing stage. We will work with your builder on framing, vent routing and clearances before anything is ordered.
